Lake Buchanan is one of our Highland Lakes destinations, and we run it as a true all-inclusive package: you get here, and we handle lodging, meals, guiding, boats and gear. All you do is fish.
Lake Buchanan, located about 60 miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country, is the largest of the Texas Highland Lakes. Spanning some 22,000 acres, it's a premier destination for fishing, boating and wildlife viewing, featuring rugged granite shores, secluded coves and the famous wintering bald eagles.
Lake Buchanan is one of the best lakes in Central Texas and probably the best in wintertime. It fishes shallow, and if you're after quality bass this is a great place to go — it's my favorite lake in the Central Texas area. In tournaments it almost always takes over 20 pounds to win here. I've put clients on some of the biggest bass on this lake, even one that beat the lake record but they never turned it in (that's the 11.75 listed above). This lake is full of all the right cover and it sets up nicely to go get those big fish. We target big largemouth, and you'll also run across white bass and the occasional striper or hybrid — but the giants are what we're after.
Trophy potential minutes from Austin
Buchanan gives you a big, scenic Hill Country lake with real trophy upside just an easy drive from Austin — no long haul and no border crossing. It's an ideal winter destination when other lakes slow down, all rolled into the same all-inclusive package.
