Choke Canyon is one of our South Texas trophy destinations, and we run it as a true all-inclusive package: you get here, and we handle lodging, meals, guiding, boats and gear. All you do is fish.

Choke Canyon Reservoir sits on the Frio River near Three Rivers, Texas, roughly an hour south of San Antonio. Surrounded by the brush country and Choke Canyon State Park, it is a classic South Texas reservoir that, at full pool, is one of the most productive big-bass fisheries in the country.

Choke Canyon has been one of the very best lakes in the country over the last 20-plus years. Unfortunately, the ones in charge of this lake have mismanaged it, and the drought on top of that has dried it up quite a lot. Back in the late 2000s, around 2008 and 2009, this was the very best lake in the country for your chance at catching a double-digit bass per square acre of water. There have been several tournaments won with over 40-pound best-five bags and some giant bass over 15 pounds weighed in. Quite the magical lake indeed. When this lake fills back up, watch out — you had better be getting to it for your shot at some giants, and I would be happy to put you on those super-sized bass when that happens.

A smarter alternative to a Mexico bass trip

Choke Canyon delivers the same tropical-style South Texas big-bass fishing people cross the border for — at rates below most Mexico bass excursions, and with the convenience and safety of staying stateside. No passport, no border, no worries. Just quality Texas bass when the lake is right.
